Green Mountain Live Edge was born in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, where two local businessmen saw an opportunity to turn their decades of design and manufacturing experience into something both useful and beautiful.

Inspired by the natural beauty surrounding them, they set out to create a line of battery-powered table lamps that could bring light to places traditional lamps couldn't all without sacrificing style, quality, or affordability.

With more than 80 years of combined design and manufacturing experience, the founders developed a unique approach that brought together locally harvested hazard timber, recycled materials, and thoughtful design to create distinctive lamps for both indoor and outdoor spaces.

What began as an idea soon became reality: a Pennsylvania-founded company with a simple goal to create functional, attractive lighting while supporting local craftsmanship and the community that inspired it.

Some of our most distinctive lamps feature live-edge wood bases crafted in Pennsylvania by Amish artisans, giving each piece the character and natural variation that only real wood can provide.

Our collection has since grown to include a variety of designs and materials, from authentic live-edge wood to durable wood-look finishes. While the materials and styles may vary, every GMLE lamp shares the same purpose: to provide beautiful, versatile light without being restricted by an electrical outlet.

Behind the Scenes: How Our Live Edge Wood Lamps Are Made

Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Green Mountain Live Edge stockyard and manufacturing facility, where locally sourced hazard timber is transformed into distinctive live edge wood products from raw timber to finished, ready-to-ship pieces.

Our process begins in the stockyard, where hazard timber (trees that have been removed because they are dead, diseased, damaged, or pose a safety risk) is sorted by species. Rather than letting this usable wood go to waste, we give it a new purpose through our sustainably sourced, live edge manufacturing process.

The timber is milled on-site, just feet from our manufacturing facility. Using our sawmill, logs are cut into slabs and immediately brought into the facility for processing. Each slab is cut to length and ripped to width to establish its live edge profile. Both surfaces are then carefully planed, sometimes requiring up to five passes on each side, to create the desired thickness and a smooth, consistent surface.

From there, each piece moves through several stages of preparation. The edges are squared on a jointer, while the tops and bases are routed to create the finished profile. Once the wood has been prepared, it moves to assembly, where it is stained, assembled, and carefully packaged for shipment.

From locally sourced timber to a finished product, every step happens on property.
